3 Tips You Should Consider When Looking to Hire Commercial Movers for Your Tampa Organization
05 Jun 2017
When it comes to hiring commercial movers to manager your office move, relocation or furniture installation there are a few things to consider.
The intent of this blog post isn’t to ‘cover everything’ but we did want to point out a few things that really are important. Here are 3 tips we’d like to share with you if you’re considering hiring a moving company for your local Tampa business.
Schedule Early
We know it can be difficult to manage a moving process at your company. We know — one, because we do this all the time for other companies and two, because we recently moved office and warehouse locations ourselves.
There are a lot of moving parts. A lot of time is spent mapping out the move and then doing all of the details required. Usually an owner or office manager is tasked with being the internal leader. And it can be a real burden.
We suggest reaching out to a moving company as early in the process as possible — even if there is not a definitive date for your move. First, this allows you to begin the process of getting in estimates — either from one company or multiple companies. And two, it allows for representatives of those companies to visit your current location to better understand what the project entails.
“This was an important tip for us,” said Pat Wolfe of Largo, FL’s WI Medical, a local mobility equipment provider. “We had a small move and didn’t give it much thought, assuming commercial movers could just add us to their schedule. Fortunately we called earlier in the month when we were configuring furniture and they were able to help us.”
Importantly — if you do have a definitive date and do like a certain company, you’ll want to lock-in to a schedule so you can be sure they’ll be available to you on the date you need.
Don’t Hire Residential Movers
We say this because residential moving companies simply don’t have the experience and training that’s required to safely and efficiently move office furniture.
Can they move a desk? Sure. Can they relocate dishes and appliances from the breakroom? Sure.
But will they know how to move your $20,000 conference room table? Will you trust them to take apart, move and correctly re-assemble the HON cubicles or AllSteel workstations that have multiple pieces, parts and accessories? Probably not.
Commercial moving companies — the ones that only focus on working with business moves — are specifically trained to work with cubicles, workstations, wall panels and other office specific furniture. It won’t be the first time they’ve leveled cabinets. It won’t be the first time they’ve connected 12 benching cubicles. It won’t be the first time they’ve correctly placed kickboards on your Herman Miller workstations.
Look for Accredited Movers
Accredited movers are ones who have met certain standards or criteria for providing the type of service you’re looking for. It generally means they’re a well-established company that focuses on training and building experience with it’s employees. It also generally means they have a commitment to bettering their own company so that it benefits your company during your move.
For example, Office Movers of Florida is a certified mover by the International Office Moving Institute. We’re also affiliated with the American Moving and Storage Association, the Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce and other groups locally.
If you’re working with a commercial real estate agent or a trusted facilities manage or building owner — feel free to ask them too which local Tampa movers you should be working with!
