New Cases of Coronavirus Increase: Will it Impact Your Tampa Business?

covid business impact on tampa companies

Friday’s Coronavirus news was not positive as cases across Florida have increased significantly.

Here in Tampa Bay, the concern related to the surging numbers is – “what impact will this have on Tampa Bay business owners and how will they respond?”

Tampa 10 News, in their article Florida adds another 8,942 new COVID-19 cases, breaking single-day record again, reports that, “That number is now the highest single-day jump in new coronavirus cases in Florida since tracking began in March, eclipsing Wednesday’s previous record of 5,508 new cases, according to data from the Department of Health.”

In response, Florida governor, Ron DeSantis has shutdown drinking in bars. The state had enjoyed an uptick in economic activity. The recent increase in case over the last two weeks may impact that activity – and one wonder what the trickle down effect may be for small business owners and employees.

As the Tampa Bay Times reports,

“Ryan Griffin, who owns Mandarin Heights in Tampa and Mandarin Hide and Trophy Fish in St. Petersburg, said he felt the action was necessary to help curb the spread of the COVID-19.

“Even though it’s not great for us financially I think it’s the right move to make sure that everyone is following the social distancing rules,” said Griffin. “With the recent spike I think this is just the safer measure.”

Still, Griffin conceded that the economic fallout could be devastating for those in the bar industry. Following the state-mandated shutdown in March, restaurants were allowed to start welcoming back customers on May 4 while bars didn’t get the green light to open until June 5.

Griffin pointed out that despite bar owners’ attempts to adhere to all the guidelines, the response to the pandemic has been varied, and many places have had a hard time enforcing social distancing practices with bar patrons.”

In traditional office spaces around Tampa and St. Pete/Clearwater, companies are trying to manage a return to work within their offices. Most employees in offices has been working from home (WTH) for the last few months. As employees have been coming back in, in many cases their workspace has changed – more space between desks, desk partitions and barriers and screens – all intended to make working from the office safe.

At Office Movers of Florida, we’ve done a lot of this work – office reconfiguration, screen installations and set up of architectural walls – all for the benefit of employers who are searching for inventive ways to get their workers back into the office without the fear or distraction of managing virus protection.
