Relocating your Tampa or St. Pete business?

An office move is a sizable project that will require hours of planning before moving day arrives. Finding your new commercial space, nailing the timeline and sorting through logistics are just a few of the items on your to do list. Finding a local Tamp area office moving company and knowing the right questions to ask before they start the job is key to a successful relocation.

Consider the following 10 questions when interviewing your potential moving company:

Do you provide free moving quotes?

This day and age, most companies do provide free quotes. However, a moving budget can be tight, make this determination before you even start asking questions.

Are you licensed?

A reputable moving company will obtain licenses or permits before transporting your goods. If they say they are licensed, go a step further to ensure the coverage hasn’t lapsed and is still in good standing. Your local DMV or state department of transportation board can provide these details.

Are you bonded and insured?

Bonds protect the overall job. You can file a claim to be reimbursed or compensated if the company quits or abandons the project. Insurance covers specific losses. Was a piece of equipment damaged? Was someone injured during the process? Ask for details and if additional insurance will be required to protect your assets.

Will you be using floor protection?

The business manager of your both your current and new commercial space may require your movers to protect the floors. Ask if blankets, plastic or Masonite sheets and cardboard will be used.

Does your company offer flexible moving hours?

To ensure your business moves with as little disruption as possible, it is best to know if overnight or weekend work is available. Do the rates differ for these odd hours?

What is your cancellation policy?

For every plan, there should be a contingency plan. Does your moving company offer a cancellation policy? How many days or hours before the project can you cancel?

How am I charged for the work you do?

Does your company work by the hour? Do you have to meet a minimum number of hours or dollars? If so, how are you charged after meeting the minimum?

Can your company move servers, computers and networking hardware?

Your computer equipment is complex when it comes to dismantling and setup. Hiring experts for this task will prevent headaches once you reach your new place.

Do your movers offer packing supplies and special equipment?

Make sure the movers have the materials they need to pack and move your business. These materials range from tape, boxes and peanuts to hand trucks, dollies and transportation.

Are my items insured during the move?

Even if a mover is bonded and insured, it doesn’t mean that your items are covered during the move. Some states require a company put a valuation of 60¢ per pound of coverage.
