Local Tampa Bay Businesses Give Out Free Masks in Effort to Stimulate Retail Sales
06 Jul 2020
You’ve probably noticed that many businesses across Tampa, St. Pete/Clearwater and Sarasota are handing out free face masks.
Obviously, these businesses are concerned about Coronavirus (Covid-19) and the spread of the virus, especially as cases have increased in late June and so far in early July.
By distributing free masks, they’re working to reduce the potential spread of the virus and the possible infection rate for their customers as well as their employees.
And certainly, one benefit of distributing those masks at no charge to their customers is that these businesses are helping to stimulate local economic activity across Tampa Bay.
When customers feel safer – and are safer – they’ll be more likely to leave their homes to shop. This is especially important for small businesses and restaurants that were either not deemed essential by the state government – or were deemed ‘not essential’ because venturing out for ordinary shopping was too risky.
Who is passing out free masks?
Goodwill Manasota will distribute tens of thousands of masks to shoppers
As the coronavirus pandemic lingers, area nonprofit organization Goodwill Manasota (GIM) has 55,000 masks available for distribution throughout the community. Goodwill Manasota received 32,000 masks from the Manatee County Health Department, 22,500 from the Sarasota County Health Department, and 500 from the DeSoto County Health Department.
Most grocery stores – Publix, Costco and many others will provide free masks to shoppers.
The cities of Tampa and St. Petersburg have also initiated free mask handouts.
